Gary R. Hater -High Quality Goldfish Breeding

A lifelong resident of Cincinnati, Ohio. Married for over 51 years to Jane. A retired professional Environmental Biologist with an emphasis in Limnology. Started fish keeping in grade school and breeding goldfish since 1980. Presently breeding English Veiltails, Philadelphia Veiltails, Bristol Shubunkins, Phoenix, Broadtail Moors, Azumanishiki, Telescope Red Cap Orandas and side view Ranchu. Will likely add some new varieties as key types become available. Also in the fish room is the breeding of Discus, White Cloud Mountain fish, various rainbows and Cory cats, and Plecostomus.

Fish Room is in a basement with multiple tiers of large tanks and fiberglass /rubber tubs. Seasonally there are 20 outdoor tubs (150-250 gallons) and a couple of larger in ground ponds. Seasoned hibernation tanks and tubs are also used.

Gary has been a member of the Greater Cincinnati Aquarium Society for about 40 years. Historically on the board of the Goldfish Society of America and founder and first president of The Goldfish Council LLC, a 501(C)-educational nonprofit.

Still very active on the board of directors of the TGC and is focused on events, judging, homemade foods, education, standards, genetics and long term survival of rare types of fish. Instrumental in preventing extinction of Bristol Shubunkins, English Veiltails and Philadelphia Veiltail. Gary and his wife Jane have hosted Breeders Social for more than 20 years.

Additional interests include fresh and salt water fishing, Netherland Dwarf Rabbit Breeding and showing, Bee Keeping, growing Chestnuts and meadow scape gardening at their farm in Falmouth KY. Rabbit hobby (Netherland Dwarfs) is large with over 80 bunnies with Joshua McWilliams. Family is fish oriented with three generations of fish keepers and professional biologists.
